Kane Williamson's participation in the 2023 ODI World Cup is in doubt following a knee injury.
New Zealand's captain, Kane Williamson, is expected to miss the 2023 ODI World Cup due to a knee ligament injury sustained during the IPL 2023 opening match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.
While attempting to catch on the boundary line, Williamson injured his knee upon landing, forcing him to leave the field immediately. Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been named as Williamson's replacement for the ongoing IPL 2023.
Williamson expressed his disappointment over the injury, stating that he will focus on surgery and rehabilitation to return to the field as soon as possible. In December 2022,
Williamson stepped down as the captain of the New Zealand Test team, with Tim Southee taking his place. Nonetheless,
Williamson remains the captain of New Zealand's ODI and T20I cricket teams and aims to continue playing in all three formats internationally.
